Adams City High School
Both teams engaged in a battle for field position in which neither team was able to score and seize early momentum.
The battle for momentum and field position continued in which the Eagles of Adams City threatened to score after connecting on a wide open 40 + yard air strike down the middle of the field from Jr. QB Liban Shongolo to Jr. WR Troy Martinez who tripped on his own and aborted a guaranteed score. A few plays later the Eagles failed to capitalize on the big play and gave up the possession on downs leading to a pair of unsuccessful possessions by both teams to make the half time score a 0 – 0 tie.
Adams City opened the 3rd quarter with the Ball and move it successfully down the field to claim their first score of the 2917 season on the same connection that failed in the previous quarter. Troy Martinez was the wide open recipient of yet another Liban Shongolo pass after some nifty QB scrambling and awareness to find his target from 40 yards away, only this time the Jr. WR was able to stand tall with ball in hand as the Eagles scored to lead 6 – 0 over the Cougars.
After the Eagles defense held strong and stopped the Cougars in successive drives that ended in Cougar turnovers by fumble that the Eagles would recovered and eventually score two more times to seal the deal. Both scores in the final and decisive quarter were by way of a persistent Eagles ground attack that saw Sr. Niko Suazo scoring on an end around and Jr. QB Liban Shongolo putting the cap on the night with a QB keeper late in the game. Good start for the ACHS Eagles in winning their home opener to start off the 2017 campaign at 1 – 0.
